Born and raised in Chicago, Ashley A. Woods is an illustrator who got her start through self-publishing her action-fantasy comic series, “Millennia War”, while attending the International Academy of Design and Technology. After earning her degree in Film and Animation, she traveled to Kyoto, Japan where she presented her work in a gallery showcase called, “Out Of Sequence”. After returning to the States, her work from her comics were included in the “Black Comix” compilation table top book published by Magnetic Press, which was used in college courses at various universities internationally.
For the next few years, she worked in freelance and continued selling her work at comic conventions and various shows. January 2015, she met Amandla Stenberg and Stranger Comics at a convention; six months later, she began working on “NIOBE: She Is Life” which went on to sell tens of thousands of copies leading in the movement of representation in comics and also inspired many cosplays.
While working on “NIOBE” in 2016, Ashley also provided a variant cover for “BLACK” with Black Mask Studio, which sold out during it’s release. In addition, she also provided the cover for “BLACK COMIX II” which will be released by Magnetic Press / Lion Forge Comics. In early 2017, Ashley worked with writer, Delilah S. Dawson (“Star Wars”, “Wicked As They Come”), on “LADY CASTLE” for BOOM! Studios. In August 2017, Ashley released more work, this time with writer Paul Allor (G.I. Joe, TMNT), for his epic anthology “Past The Last Mountain”.
Ashley’s next projects include “Tomb Raider: Survivor’s Crusade” for Dark Horse Comics and Crystal Dynamics as well as the eighth book in her long running independent action-fantasy series, “Millennia War”.
When Ashley isn’t working, she enjoys traveling, playing video games and studying Japanese.
